How to repair small scratches on a vinyl car wrap
Vinyl patches can be used to repair small scratches on a car wrap. You may be able do this on your own but having your vinyl wrap company repair the wrap will ensure the patch looks perfect.(vehicle wraps)
To repair a small scratch, you will need to:
1. Clean the Damaged Area
Use a mixture of soapy water to clean the area. Then, use a microfibre cloth to dry it. Before performing any bodywork on the area, remove all debris, grease, and wax. These substances may affect the way the vinyl patch sticks to the vehicle.
2. Remove damaged vinyl sections
Use a sanding pad with wet sandpaper on a sanding board to remove damaged vinyl sections. Use only light pressure to sand the block horizontally. After the vinyl is removed, dry the area with a microfibre cloth.
3. Vinyl Patch
Once you have the right size vinyl patch, remove the backing and start applying the middle of the vinyl. Remove the backing of the vinyl patch and start applying it with your fingers or using a squeegee. As you work your way down and up the patch, remove any air pockets. Consider heating the vinyl using a hairdryer or heat gun to help it stretch.
4. Attach the Vinyl Patch
Use a hairdryer or heat gun to adhere the vinyl wrap to any stretched surfaces such as curves and creases.
Vinyl Wrap Repairs Following a Car Accident
It may be possible to fix your vehicle wrap if you've been involved in a serious accident. Ask the auto technician for the cure time of the paint if your car needs to be repainted. You may be able drive your vehicle once the paint has dried to the touch. However, the paint beneath the surface must harden before the car wrap can repaired.
